Ladies and Gentlemen of the Legislature:
These facts have huge consequences not only for our children and our democratically based system of public education but for our country's future as a whole. Please store these thoughts in the back of your minds as you consider legislation and hear testimony from parents and educators who are not willing to abdicate their responsibilities and their rights as American citizens to any influential and powerful individual or group.
It has been a long rocky road for teachers the last 13 years or so, from the failed and punitive mandates of No Child Left Behind to the beginnings of the serious attacks on our profession which we hold so dear to the latest overreach by non-educators and corporatist elitists directly into our classrooms with Common Core Standards and their inextricable curriculum and standardized tests.
It was not until parents experienced the direct results of these policies on THEIR children that the fallacy of so-called education reform was realized and the battle line has been drawn.

"If a child struggles to clear the high bar at five feet, she will not become a "world class" jumper because someone raised the bar to six feet and yelled "jump higher," or if her “poor” performance is used to punish her coach." - - CommonSense
"I believe in standardizing automobiles. I do not believe in standardizing human beings. Standardization is a great peril which threatens American culture.”—— Albert Einstein
