Superintendent White DEFAMES TEACHERS!

So the Superintendent, in a knee jerk reaction, takes a pot shot at the Louisiana Federation of Teachers upon its filing of a lawsuit on behalf of qualified certified educators that brings into question the constitutionality of legislation that affects not only every child in the state of Louisiana but every citizen.

One has to question the legal implications of his making this latest defammatory if not outright libelous attack in its blatant and unmistakable indictment of teachers and their motives. Not only does Supt. White not offer a defense (as if there were one) for the role he played in the design and passage of this legislation but he lets the cat out of the bag that politics could indeed be the reason for the push for "reform" and the resulting legislative debacle.

I would submit that Superintendent White needs to retract and clarify his statement and that he offers more than one apology to the professional educators and the association that REPRESENTS THEM!!

This was a juvenile attempt to save face Mr. White! You should hope that your testimony in court will serve you and your case better. Then again maybe you should plead the 5th.

STATEMENT FROM STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION JOHN WHITE

Reference: Lawsuits filed by the Louisiana Federation of Teachers (LFT)

"The LFT is preventing parents from doing what they think is best for their children. It's time to return our focus to teaching and classrooms, but the LFT keeps dragging us back to politics and courtrooms."

  1. Professional educators (aka public school teachers) are focused on teaching and classrooms. The governor and his Bobbie-heads can parrot the profiteers' propaganda 'til doomsday and it will still be the most sinister scam ever perpetrated in a state known for the outrageous. Genuine doom is afoot in LA and its name is ALEC agenda Jindal.

Why has the governor signed a law that diverts public funds to a state-wide charter system with no certified teachers or accountability required? Wake up and smell the Piyush!

  2. White's statement:

"The LFT is preventing parents from doing what they think is best for their children. It's time to return our focus to teaching and classrooms, but the LFT keeps dragging us back to politics and courtrooms."

I'd like to start by giving a little historical insight on LA teacher unions...the last collective action was in 1979, and for the most part...there has been no action until 2012. Our unions don't have a public reputation for demanding things like higher pay, lunch breaks, stronger benefits, decreased paperwork, less duty, etc. Before making such statements, White may want to consider how true it is...how many lawsuits has the LFT filed, and lost, since 1979?

Were White truly concerned about children, he would have engaged the people who love to work with them the most...teachers. We become an extension of the family in homes where parents and children have strong connections. Parents may not talk to us directly, but the exploits of our classes become dinner conversations. Teachers connect with students to mull over highlights of life events such as births in the family, weekend visits with non-custodial parents, ball game outcomes, divorce, deaths, vacations, etc. Many of us have some students that trust us more than they trust their parents (literally calling us mom/dad), and many of us get closer to our students than their parents do for the time they are in our care, and sometimes beyond.

Teachers are charged with en loco parentis not only as a professional duty, but on a close paternal level.

"The Louisiana Federation of Teachers is filing a lawsuit on behalf of qualified certified educators that brings into question the constitutionality of legislation that affects not only every child in the state of Louisiana but every citizen." It is the only branch of government left in the checks and balances. If the executive branch railroads the legislative branch into passing laws that are questionable, where else is the LFT to go?

  3. Mr. White is not even a real teacher. He was a Teach For America and now he is Jindal's boy. Do you notice how he strategically had his Baton Rouge area meetings in areas where he had a chance of preaching to the choir---Zachary and Ascension. What would have he done had he dared speak to EBR teachers, especially those in North Baton Rouge where they are being vacuumed up for disposal by the RSD. White is probably not family. If he is, he is going to have trouble sleeping at night soon because he will be sick from his own acts of betrayal. Personally,I doubt if he cares either way. He is just doing the job King Bobby pays him for.
